The youngest-ever scorer pulls Everton level.
Everton 1 – 1 Arsenal.
The match between Everton and Arsenal started off the weekend at Walton Hall Park. Everton did well to hold back Arsenal for most of the game. Unfortunately, Everton have suffered multiple injuries to valuable players this season, which has forced them to rely on youth players to fill their bench, no problem here.
The Gunners missed many chances, which worked in Everton’s favor. Eventually, Alessia Russo found herself in the right position to score the first goal of the match.
Later, Issy Hobson, who was born and raised in Everton, scored in the 95th minute, making her the youngest scorer in WSL history. She came off the bench with desire and a dream and headered the ball past Manuela Zinsberger. She tops the ranks of Lauren Hemp and Georgia Stanway and becomes the leagues youngest scorer.
Relegation confirmed for Bristol City.
Bristol City 0 – 4 Manchester City.
Bristol City faced a heavy defeat which, unfortunately, confirmed their relegation.
Manchester City, on the other hand, managed to increase their goal difference and climb to the top of the table.
Although Manchester City struggled to find finishes at first, they managed to pick up the pace. Mary Fowler’s long-range shot in the 62nd minute resulted in a goal, and she did it again later in the match. Amy Rogers’ own goal added to Bristol City’s troubles. Greenwood scored in extra time, securing a 4-0 victory for Manchester City.
As they failed to pick up any points Bristol City’s relegation has been confirmed as they can no longer bounce back.
Ella Toone’s Late Goal Secures Victory for Manchester United.
Leicester City 0 – 1 Manchester United.
Superstar substitute Ella Toone scored late on at the King Power Stadium to salvage 3 points for Manchester United. The victory for the Red Devils puts an end to a poor run of form away from home.
Both sides created their chances in the first half but neither side was able to complete them.
Leicester’s shot-stopper Janina Leitzig was deployed into action to defend her against United’s Melvine Mallard who skillfully dribbled around the defenders to make her way to the front of the goal. She stood strong and tall between the posts and continued to deny the visitors by plucking the ball out of the air.
Leitzig was not the only keeper in action as the Foxes also challenged Mary Earps. When they managed to collect possession the Foxes made swift runs towards the box but left the first half with nothing to show of their efforts.
The second half continued in a similar fashion to the first. Mary Earps went down for a moment after making a heart-breaking save and sending the ball skimming away from the post.
United then went on to make 3 substitutions with the hope they would soon seek some reward. Ella Toone was one of these substitutions finally broke the deadlock with a shot from outside the box straight from the training ground.
11 minutes were added to the tally but Leicester were unable to break Earps and salvage a point.
The victory for United puts 3 points clear of Liverpool and keeps them in fourth place. Leicester’s loss means that they remain in 10th place with just enough points to keep them in top-flight women’s football for another season.
