Man City Display Nerves of Steel in Crucial Title Race Clash

In the absence of Chelsea from league action, Manchester City had the opportunity to climb to the top spot in the league when they faced Liverpool this weekend.
In their last tie with Liverpool, Manchester City were the ones who emerged victorious with a 5-0 win, with Bunny Shaw scoring a hattrick and this time was sure to be no different.

The first goal was scored by Lauren Hemp in the 16th minute, followed by Jess Park doubling their lead. Bunny Shaw later added two more goals to the tally, one of them coming from a long shot and the other from a header following a corner.
After conceding 3 goals in less than 10 minutes in the first half, Liverpool scored a sole consolation goal. Initially, a goal was attributed to Taylor Hinds, but upon review, it was found to be an own goal by goalkeeper Kiara Keating.
The victory was significant as Manchester City moved to the top spot in the league. The win also showed the city’s strong title charge with no nerves at play, which they will need to maintain as Chelsea still have a game in hand.

Toone scores her 50th United goal in comfortable win over Everton.

Manchester United and Everton played in their respective derbies last weekend with different degrees of success. Manchester United lost 3-1, Everton managed to secure a draw.
Interestingly, the last time these two teams played against each other, Manchester United won by a margin of 5-0.

However, when Everton bagged an early lead in Sunday’s match it looked like that track record was set to be wiped. Snoejis scored a goal in just 10 minutes as a sloppy pass from Le Tissier allowed Everton to take the lead.
In the 57th minute, Millie Turner scored the equaliser.
Ella Toone then became the star of the show as she scored two goals in quick succession in the 60th and 65th minutes. With these goals, she became the first female player to reach 50 goals for the club.
This was followed by Galton scoring a goal in the 90th minute, which secured a comfortable win for United.

Two other games were also played this weekend.

Aston Villa went head-to-head with Midlands rivals Leicester City. The fixture ended with the points split in a 2-2 draw with goals from Leon, Momiki, Tierney and Daly.

West Ham faced Brighton in the last game of the weekend. This fixture also ended with split points with both sides benefiting from an increase distance from the relegation spot.

The WSL table.

Manchester City’s victory allowed them to move to the prestigious first-place spot in the league table.
Manchester United moved to 4th place after dropping to 5th last week. They are still in a competitive position, as they are 6 points away from Arsenal and only 2 points above Liverpool.
All the teams in the bottom half have maintained their previous positions in the league table as the only change was in the points and goal difference.
However, there are 2 games yet to be played, so this could change when the WSL returns from the international break.
