PREVIEW : WSL matchday 18.

Only 4 WSL games will be played this weekend due to the final of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

Let’s see what could come up in these upcoming games.

Aston Villa vs Leicester City.

Aston Villa will face Leicester City in an East Midlands derby at the Bescot Stadium. Aston Villa is currently in the 7th spot with 6 wins, whereas Leicester City has secured 4 wins and sits in the 9th position.

Aston Villa lost their previous game against Arsenal by 3-1. They had a mixed season so far, without a win in the first 5 weeks of the season.

On the other hand, Leicester City faced a narrow 3-2 defeat against Brighton in their previous fixture. They have now lost three consecutive WSL games. Leicester are in desperate need of a win following their string of defeats more so as they will be looking to get back to winning ways as they face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the WFA Cup.

The last time these two sides met was at the Pirelli Stadium in January, where Aston Villa emerged victorious with a goal scored by Rachel Daly in the 16th minute, and Leicester City failed to respond.

Do you think the Foxes will be able to maintain their position in the league table or could history repeat itself at the Bescot stadium causing them to fall? It will be interesting to see how this match unfolds.

Liverpool vs Manchester City.

Last weekend, Liverpool climbed over Manchester United to reach the fourth place after they drew to Everton. With eight wins under their belt, Liverpool seems to be on the rise, and if they continue their winning streak, they may end up competing with Arsenal to play in Europe.

However, if they want to do that they will have to face a dominant Manchester City side. They are currently neck and neck with Chelsea, with both teams joint on points. However, the only thing separating them is the goal difference of 2.

The last time these two played each other was at the Joie Stadium in January. Taylor Hinds scored the opener, but it was Manchester City who emerged victorious. They put five goals behind Teagan Micah, with Bunny Shaw scoring a hattrick.
In last week’s Manchester derby, Bunny Shaw once again made headlines by scoring her 68th goal for the club, her 17th of the season, thereby becoming the city’s record goalscorer.

The question is whether Bunny can add to the tally and lead Manchester City to the top of the table once again, or if Liverpool will pull off an upset and steal the spotlight from the dominant Man City

Everton vs Manchester United.

In the WSL table, Manchester United currently sit in 5th place with 28 points, just one point behind Liverpool. Meanwhile, Everton are currently in 10th place with 15 points.

Both these sides played in their respective derbies but with different degrees of success. Manchester United lost, whereas Everton managed to secure a draw.

The last time Manchester United and Everton played against each other, it resulted in a 5-0 victory for Manchester United. Interestingly, despite Everton having slightly more possession, they did not manage to score a goal in that game.

West Ham vs Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Ham currently sits in the 11th position on the league table. They seem to be in a relatively safe position as they have a 6-point cushion between them and Bristol, but they still need to secure as many wins as possible to further distance themselves from the bottom.
On the other hand, Brighton is currently in the 8th place and has a 5-point lead over West Ham. They were able to bounce back from their recent losses with a victory against Leicester.

The last time West Ham and Brighton went head-to-head in the league was back in October when the Hammers secured a 2-0 win, with Kirsty Smith scoring the opening goal and Riko Ueki doubling their lead in the 51st minute.

Brighton have delivered some shocking performances this season, including a 7-3 win against Bristol City, which shows their ability to find the back of the net. However, victories have been few and far between for them.
West Ham has also proved to be capable of finding the net, especially in reverse fixtures. For example, they suffered a 5-0 defeat at the Leigh Sports Village but managed to draw against the Red Devils when they played at the Chigwell construction stadium. They also did the same when they played against Arsenal (lost 3-0 away but won 2-1 at home). This indicates how comfortable the team is when playing at home; a pattern they will be looking to continue in this upcoming game.

Now that you’ve read what I’ve had to say, Who do you think will be picking up points?
